Just Don’t Lose Yourself
Here’s the thing… when you’re running your own online business and working remote (from home) it is super easy to get into a the habit for wearing yoga pants and an over-sized t-shirt. Honestly, it’s not just when you’re running your own business… it can happen when you’re a stay-at-home mother or even if you have any sort of flexibility that doesn’t require you to come into a corporate office 8-5p.
You would think that would be living the dream, but before you know it, you’ve lost your swag… your sex appeal… your ‘fly’ factor. No one wants to feel like they are no longer the ‘sh*t’. Here’s the thing, when I started working from home full-time, I felt like it was the dream. Then I started wearing work out pants all day and not brushing my hair, but I worked 13 hours straight… so I was okay with it. It’s easy to forget that how you appear IS actually important and contrary to what everyone says, YOU do need to look presentable on occasion (but it has to be defined by YOU). Don’t dress up everyday because someone is telling you to. You should dress up because it makes you feel good.
About a year ago, I sat down in my COO’s office. I told him that I was having a day and that I was going to go home to take a shower and start again. He looked at me confused. I told him when I take a shower in the morning and dress the ‘powerful part’ at work, I feel more confident. He looked me dead in the eyes and said, “hum… I can totally get that”.
If you’ve paid attention to our snapchat or perhaps our Instagram Live, you will have noticed that I love this new dress and it is a great substitute to my workout gear! 😉 It is probably the most comfortable thing I own and I wear it (all kidding aside) at least 2 days a week, since I’ve gotten it. It’s easy to hop into a pair of yoga pants, but instead I opt for something like this. It’s incredibly comfortable, lightweight and soft as heck. Oh and did I mention that because it’s a dress I actually feel like a ‘lady’? lol.
Don’t let people define your idea of what work clothes looks like, but also don’t slum it on the regular. You’d be surprised how much more you get done, just by dressing the ‘power part’.
